Little Chart made the short journey to to old friends Egerton on this glorious Saturday afternoon. While a Spitfire wheeled overhead and the sun shone out of a blue sky, Little Chart were inserted to bat. And what a perfect batting wicket it was: Little Chart posting 193 against a mainly youthful Egerton side. Records fell: 3 Chart batsmen got half centuries – Matt Hall, Craig Taylor and Roger Pinnock, and Tom Lawrence declared the innings short of the agreed total for the first time in 60 seasons’ cricket.
Tom and Peter Irvin opened the bowling, and claim to have terrified the opposition. Tight bowling saw the home side restricted in their run chase, and eventually overs ran out while still 80 odd runs short of the total.
The day was spectacular in that a mixture of veterans and colts played in the spirit of cricket, and once again a lady joined the game. The final bonus was that the local pub served Harvey’s. Perfick!
